World Premiere -- May 5, 2013
Waging Peace Choral Composition

Waging Peace Collage

Music has the power to articulate the deepest emotion.

Music can bring people together and unite them in a common cause.

Music can be a beacon of hope.

Music can serve as a catalyst for change.

On May 5, 2013, the faith community of greater Baton Rouge gathered at Broadmoor Baptist Church to be moved and inspired by an original musical composition by composer Robert Kyr. The lyrics are inspired by dialogues held in the Fall of 2012 in Baton Rouge.

The voices heard were the voices of and from the community. Through them was heard the pain of violence, the call to action, and the sweet sounds of a community committed to justice, reconciliation, and peace.

WAGING PEACE! LAUNCHED

Dr Robert Kyr WAGING PEACE! was launched at the Annual Community Prayer Breakfast on Oct. 25, 2012.

The entire community has been invited through this initiative to reflect upon what it means to WAGE PEACE -- individually, and as a larger community.

Discussions were held, and submissions were made, to co-create an original choral composition with respected American composer Dr. Robert Kyr. The world premiere was held in Baton Rouge May 5, 2013, at Broadmoor Baptist Church at the Sounds of CommUNITY concert. (Click here for the flyer for the spring Sounds of CommUNITY concert.)

So, gather your friends, family, co-workers, and/or faith community. Encourage one another in WAGING PEACE!
